Context Contexte

AI had arrived in the org but every designer was exploring alone. No dedicated spaces, no sanctuarized time, no places to share. The more comfortable ones moved fast, the others felt left behind. At the strategic level, nothing was framed: no formalized tool selection, no responsible AI competency, no shared vision.

Challenge Challenge

Industrialize AI adoption for the entire product design community. Not just train individuals, but build the operational infrastructure (rituals, spaces, working groups) that makes the collective grow together.

My approach Mon approche

Built the operational infrastructure for collective AI adoption: sanctuarized weekly rituals (AI Jams, Design Jams), dedicated spaces, and clear registration flows so practitioners knew when and where to show up. Exploration stopped being a solo activity and became a shared rhythm across global hubs.

Initiated working groups organized by workflow phase, with mixed skill levels on specific design workflow steps. Pushed internally for a dedicated AI Exploration ritual within the Elements Core Team. Rationale: AI was new for everyone, nobody had real expertise, we needed to sanctuarize time for learning. Format: two half-days per week for the Core Team to explore tools, read articles, and share findings back to the full team.

On the tooling side: co-defined the vision for Elements Slay in team workshops - a CLI tool on top of the Elements MCP that operationalizes contribution for any practitioner, not just developers. A developer built the CLI; I own the adoption strategy, documentation, onboarding flow, and ongoing practitioner support for both the MCP and the CLI. The tool makes contribution a one-command operation from any IDE, removing the technical barrier that kept non-devs out of the contribution pipeline. For a concrete component example (Chip/Tag/Badge), see Crafting the Elements Component Library.

Co-built a Product Design x AI strategy with my director. Framed opportunities from early 2025 around three hypotheses: standardised AI workflows are needed, a responsible AI competency needs to be created, and we need strategic tool selection and integration (my Ops scope).

Ran tool benchmarks with POCs for identified solutions. Mid-2025, delivered a report to the CXLT and Head of Engineers on a possible future of product design in the AI era.
